Old Red

Listening to this song while I work....I love this song.  I think that it is really funny and cute.  It is a love song for puppies!  It also always reminds me that there is almost always a solution to a problem if you are creative and patient enough.  ;)

Old Red
Blake Shelton
Well I caught my wife with another man
And it cost me ninety nine
On a prison farm in Georgia
Close to the Florida line
Well I'd been here for two long years
I finally made the warden my friend
And so he sentenced me to a life of ease
Taking care of Ol Red

Now Ol' Red he's the damnedest dog that I've ever seen
Got a nose that can smell a two day trail
He's a four legged tracking machine
You can consider yourself mighty lucky
To get past the gators and the quicksand beds
But all these years that I've been here
Ain't nobody got past Red

And the warden sang
Come on somebody
Why don't you run
Ol' Red's itchin' to have a little fun
Get my lantern
Get my gun
Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes

Well I paid off the guard and I slipped out a letter
To my cousin up in Tennessee
Oh and he brought down a blue tick hound
She was pretty as she could be
Well they penned her up in the swampland
'Bout a mile just south of the gate
And I'd take Ol' Red for his evening run
I'd just drop him off and wait

And the warden sang
Come on somebody
Why don't you run
Ol' Red's itchin' to have a little fun
Get my lantern
Get my gun
Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes

Now Ol' Red got real used to seeing
His lady every night
And so I kept him away for three or four days
And waited till the time got right
Well I made my run with the evenin' sun
And I smiled when I heard 'em turn Red out
'Cause I was headed north to Tennessee
And Ol' Red was headed south

And the warden sang
Come on somebody
Why don't you run
Ol' Red's itchin' to have a little fun
Get my lantern
Get my gun
Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes

Now there's red haired blue ticks all in the South
Love got me in here and love got me out

Something 'Bout...

I haven't posted in awile because I have been hiding out, laying low, if you will.  I don't feel like I have to lay low anymore.  It is a nice feeling.  Here is a song by Kip Moore that it one of my new favorites!  It reminds me of some sort of kid song or something...something like "the head bone's connected to the neck bone, the neck bone's connected to the...."  Except it is about fun stuff like trucks, beer, kisses and creeks!  A song where one things leads to another...

Kip Moore
Something 'Bout a Truck

Somethin bout a truck in a farmers field
A no trespass sign, and time to kill
Nobody's gonna get hurt, so what's the big deal
Somethin bout a truck in a farmer's field

Somethin bout beer, sittin on ice
After a long hard day, makes it taste just right
On that dropped tailgate, on a summer night
Somethin bout beer sittin on ice

And there's somethin bout a girl, in a red sun dress
with an ice cold beer pressed against her lips
In that farmers field, will make a boy a man
There's somethin bout a girl in a red sundress

And there's somethin bout a kiss, that's gonna lead to more
On that dropped tailgate, back behind the corn
The most natural thing you've ever felt before
There's somethin bout a kiss that's gonna lead to more

And there's somethin bout a truck in a field And a girl in a red sundress with an ice cold beer to her lips
Beggin for another kiss
And there's somethin bout you and me and the birds and the bees
And lord have mercy it's a beautiful thing
Ain't nothin bout it luck, there's somethin bout a truck

Somethin bout a creek, around 2 a.m.
After a few of those beers, you wanna dive on in
You don't need no clothes, so just hang em on a limb
There's somethin bout a creek around 2 a.m.

And there's somethin bout a truck in a field
And a girl in a red sundress with an ice cold beer to her lips
Beggin for another kiss
And there's somethin bout you and me and the birds and the bees
And lord have mercy, it's a beautiful thing
Ain't nothin bout it luck, there's somethin bout a truck
Ain't nothin bout it luck, there's somethin bout a truck

Country Self Improvement Song

Can't wait to see him this summer!  I really like this song because it is about learning from your past and trying to be a better person in the future....something I believe that we should all make a lifelong goal and process.  I have learned many life lessons over the past few years and hope to continue to do so!

Tim McGraw - Better Than I Used To Be

I know how to hold a grudge
I can send a bridge up in smoke
And I can't count the people I've let down, the hearts I've broke
You ain't gotta dig too deep
If you wanna find some dirt on me
I'm learning who you've been
Ain't who you've got to be
It's gonna be an uphill climb
Aww honey I won't lie

I ain't no angel
I still got a few more dances with the devil
I'm cleanin up my act, little by little
I'm getting there
I can finally stand the man in the mirror I see
I ain't as good as I'm gonna get
But I'm better than I used to be

I've pinned a lot of demons to the ground
I've got a few old habits left

There's one or two I might need you to help me get
Standin in the rain so long has left me with a little rust
But put some faith in me
And someday you'll see
There's a diamond under all this dust

I ain't no angel
I still got a few more dances with the devil
I'm cleanin up my act, little by little
I'm getting there
I can finally stand the man in the mirror I see
I ain't as good as I'm gonna get
But I'm better than I used to be

I ain't no angel
I still got a few more dances with the devil
But I'm cleanin up my act, little by little
I'm getting there
I can finally stand the man in the mirror I see
I ain't as good as I'm gonna get
But I'm better than I used to be

Songs About Me

This song basically describes why I like country music....[

Trace Adkins - Songs About Me

Met a guy on the red eye
He spotted my guitar
And said what do you do?
I said, I sing for a living,
Country music mixed with
A little rock and a little blues
He said I'm sorry
But I've never been crazy
'Bout that twang and trains and hillbilly thing
What ever made you want to sing stuff like that?
I just looked at him and laughed and said

Cause it's songs about me
And who I am
Songs about loving and living
And good hearted women and family and God
Yeah they're all just
Songs about me
Songs about me

So I offered him tickets
I said you'll see what I mean
If you show up tonight
He said I doubt you'll change my opinion
I'll be kind of busy, but hey man, I'll try

Then later on when we finished our songs
About scars and cars and broken hearts
I saw him, he was standing there
Right next to the stage
And he shouted
Man you were right
It was like you sang those

Songs about me
And who I am
Songs about loving and living
And good hearted women and family and God
Yeah they're all just
Songs about me
Songs about me

So I'll just keep on singing
'Til I hear the whole world singing those

Songs about me
And who I am
Songs about loving and living
And good hearted women and family and God
Yeah they're all just
Songs about me
Songs about me

Rush back home...

There is one line of this song that I really like.  I wouldn't say that I am a work-o-holic, but I do like my job and want to be good at what I do.  I learned a long time ago, working in one of my first jobs, how easy it is to let work consume all others aspects of life.  I swore that I would not do that to myself again.  This can be a very difficult thing to do, and I think that as a society, we have a hard time taking care of ourselves and not overworking.  According to CNN, employees in the US get an average of 25 days off a year (between vacation and paid holidays).  Sounds great, but compared to Italy (31), Japan (35) and France (40), to name a few, our leisure time seems pathetic.  Then when you take into consideration that many business people are never really "off the clock," taking calls in the evenings, checking email on weekends and vacations, do we ever really allow ourselves the down time that we need.  I think that it is so important to seperate work from home and to actually be "disconnected" from work and relax.  So, all that being said.....here is the line of the song that I like:

"I used to rush off to work and get home late but
Now I show up late and rush back home"

Here's to taking the time to take care of ourselves and our families!

Chris Young - You
The bluest skies don't seem so blue
And the stars seem to be a little dimmer too
Now that you're around you put 'em all to shame
Let me break it down cause what I'm trying to say is

No one gets me like you when you kiss me
Girl you rock me harder than some downtown band
I thought I knew what love was but I didn't have a clue
I never found anything that makes me feel like I do about you

Gotta whole new direction it seems these days
I used to rush off to work and get home late but
Now I show up late and rush back home
My priorities are different, I can't leave you alone

No one gets me like you when you kiss me
Girl you rock me harder than some downtown band
I thought I knew what love was but I didn't have a clue
I never found anything that makes me feel like I do about you

Girl if you ever get to guessing if I'm thinking about you

Just remember that

No one gets me like you when you kiss me
Girl you rock me harder than some downtown band
I thought I knew what love was but I didn't have a clue
I never found anything that makes me feel like I do about you

You you you, youuuuu, whoa you

Happy Love Day!

I am not a huge Valentine's Day person, but I do like to celebrate love!  Here is the song that Kyle and I danced to at our wedding.  I absolutely love this song and my husband.  Kyle has continually amazed me over the course of the last nine years (or so).  The last two years have been very trying and Kyle has been such a patient support to me even while dealing with his own stuff.  I am so lucky to have him as my Valentine :)

Keith Urban - Memories of Us

I'm gonna be here for you baby
I'll be a man of my word
Speak the language in a voice
That you have never heard

I wanna sleep with you forever
And I wanna die in your arms
In a cabin by a meadow
Where the wild bees swarm

And I'm gonna love you
Like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust
Makin' memories of us

I wanna honor your mother
And I wanna learn from your pa
I wanna steal your attention
Like a bad outlaw

And I wanna stand out in a crowd for you
A man among men
I wanna make your world better
Than it's ever been

And I'm gonna love you
Like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust
Makin' memories of us

We'll follow the rainbow
Wherever the four winds blow
And there'll be a new day
Comin' your way

I'm gonna be here for you from now on
This you know somehow
You've been stretched to the limits
But it's alright now

And I'm gonna make you a promise
If there's life after this
I'm gonna be there to meet you
With a warm, wet kiss

And I'm gonna love you
Like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust
Makin' memories of us

I'm gonna love you
Like nobody loves you
And I'll win your trust
Makin' memories of us

Drink on it!

I wish that we could solve all of life's problems by "drinkin' on it!"  I do think that many things can become clearer in the haze of a few good vodka drinks.....I miss drinking :(

Blake Shelton - Drink On It

Hey girl hey where ya goin'
Come back and sit back down
You look too good to be heading home so early now
You say you gotta work tomorrow
Got a lot on your mind
Let me buy another round

Girl I think you and I should just drink on it
Put our heads together and think on it
Maybe later on we can sleep on it
But for right now girl we just need to drink on it

We can talk Rocket Science, Jesus or Politics
Hey your boyfriend cheated on you
Man he sounds like such a prick
I could use another whiskey and your Cosmo’s gettin' low
While we're trying to figure out the next place we should go

We can drink on it
Put our heads together and think on it
Maybe later on we can sleep on it
But for right now girl we just need to drink on it

This place is closing down
But I don't wanna quit
Gotta good thing going girl
Let’s find out what it is and drink on it

Your place or mine girl we can drink on it
Dust off a bottle and drink on it
Feels like we're doin' something right
Let's find a corner of the night

Where you and I can just drink on it
Put our heads together and think on it
Maybe later on we can sleep on it
But for right now girl we just need to drink on it

Might make a memory that we won't forget
So let’s just drink on it
Mmm drink on it

Give in to me

I am sure that most people would think that the movie Country Strong is fairly lame; however, I am a sucker for country movies (ie..Urban Cowboy, 8 Seconds, etc).  Go figure.  I thought that the soundtrack for Country Strong was really good and here is my favorite!

Give In To Me

I’m gonna wear you down
I’m gonna make you see
I’m gonna get to you
You’re gonna give into me

I’m gonna start a fire
You’re gonna feel the heat
I’m gonna burn for you
You’re gonna melt for me

Come on, come on
Into my arms
Come on, come on
Give into me

You’re gonna take my hand
Whisper the sweetest words
And if you’re ever sad
I’ll make you laugh
I’ll chase the hurt

My heart is set on you
I don’t want no one else
And if you don’t want me
I guess I’ll be all by myself

Come on, come on
Into my arms
Come on, come on
Give into me

I’ll use my eyes to draw you in
Until I’m under your skin
I’ll use my lips, I’ll use my arms
Come on, come on, come on
Give into me

Give into me
Give into me

The Dance

GAC did a top 50 videos of the 90's countdown.  It was very entertaining!  It was a reminder that MTV only started back in 1981 and still were not perfected by the 90's....not to mention lots of really lame talking during videos (Reba), mullets (Alan, Toby, Tim), high wasted jeans (Shania), etc!  The number one video of that decade was Garth Brooks' The Dance.  It was actually a pretty good video that delivers a strong message: the journey is more important than the destination.  Our experiences mold us into the people we are today which is why I don't believe in regrets.  This song makes me happy and sad all at the same time.

Garth Brooks - The Dance

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey, who's to say you know I might have chanced it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes, my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Ode to the single ladies!

Here is my tribute to my single lady friends that have the challenge of dealing with all the baggage that people carry around which makes dating harder than it already is.  I think about you all often!  Life is difficult enough dealing with all of our own baggage let alone someone elses!  Tell them to leave it at the baggage claim!

Miranda Lambert - Baggage Claim

I have been dragging around
your sensitive ego
Making sure that your bags arrive on time
For the dog and pony show
a leather suit case like a brick
it kinda makes it hard to get a good grip
I drop your troubles off at the conveyor belt
I hand you a ticket to go get it your self

At the baggage claim
you got a lot of luggage in your name
When you hit the ground check the lost and found
cuz it aint my problem now I can't carry it all
I got a lot of troubles on my own
Its all over the yard and in the trunk of the car
I'm packing it in, so come and get it

If it aint obvious what has set me off today
behind every women scorned is a man
who made her that way
Go on and take your little business trip
with that sweet little habit that you can't kick
You better call your momma when ya get to town
cuz I aint gonna be hanging around
At the baggage claim
you got a lot of luggage in your name
When you hit the ground check the lost and found
cuz it aint my problem now I can't carry it all
I got a lot of troubles on my own
Its all over the yard and in the trunk of the car
I'm packing it in, so come and get it

come get it

Come and pick it up
before I blow it up in flames
you better pick it up
pick it up

Baby I mean everything
at the baggage claim
you got a lot of luggage in your name
When you hit the ground check the lost and found
cuz it aint my problem now I can't carry it all
I got a lot of troubles on my own
Its all over the yard and in the trunk of the car
I'm packing it in, so come and get it

And...

A band called Curtis and Luckey opened up for Little Big Town, and they were pretty good too!  Check them out....listen to the song called Tattoo on the link below.

http://www.reverbnation.com/curtisandluckey

You're the reason why

Went and saw Little Big Town at the Grizzly Rose on Friday....it was awesome!  They are a really talented group and have some songs that are more on the bluegrass side of things, which I like.  Here is a song that they played that I like:

Little Big Town - You're the Reason Why

I could love you
Baby, if you want me to
I could go and fall for you
And never even try, hey, hey
I could let you in
Baby, where nobody’s been
Yeah, I’m ready and willing
To give this love a try, hey, hey
(Chorus)
You’re the reason why
(Baby you’re the only reason why)
Don’t wanna say goodnight
(Keep kissing me don’t wanna say goodnight)
Yeah it feels so right
(Everything is gonna be alright)
You’re the reason why, hey, hey
You’re the reason why, hey, hey
You’re in my head
Like a song I can’t forget
Wanna hear it over again
And again hey, hey
Come on and take my hand
I’m ready and willing
Over and over again

Love my like my dog does

This song cracks me up, but it also is a fun reminder of how love should be....I needed to be reminded of this today while I was running errands and cranky.

Billy Currington - Love Me Like My Dog Does

He never tells me that he's sick of this house
He never says, "Why don't you get off that couch?"
He don't cost me nothin' when he wants to go out
I want you to love me like my dog

He never says I need a new attitude
Him and my sister ain't always in a feud
When I leave the seat up, he don't think that's rude
I want you to love me like my dog does baby

When I come home want you to just go crazy
He never looks at me like he might hate me
I want you to love me like my dog

He never acts like he don't care for my friends
He never asks me "Where 'n the hell have you been?"
He don't play dead when I want to pet him
I want you to love my like my dog does, honey

He never says, "I wish you made more money"
He always thinks that pull my finger's funny
I want you to love me like my dog

He don't get made at me and throw a major fit
When I say his sister is a bitch

I want you to love me like my dog does, baby
When I come home, want you to just go crazy
He never looks at me like he might hate me
I want you to love me like my dog

I want you to love me like my dog does, baby

God Gave Me You

I recorded and watched the GAC Top 50 Videos of 2011 while Kyle was out of town.  I decided that I would post whatever video made number one as my post tonight.  It is ironic that Blake Shelton's God Gave Me You is the song that made number one and that I am posting.  I have thought multiple times about putting this song up.  This song had rung so true for me over the past year....2011 was not my best year. "I’ve been a walking heartache, I’ve made a mess of me, the person that I’ve been lately, ain’t who I wanna be" is an opening line that described me on way too many occasions.  However, on just as many occasions, if not more, I have seen how lucky I am to have found such a wonderful man.  Kyle has truely been my rock, and I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Blake Shelton - God Gave Me You

I’ve been a walking heartache
I’ve made a mess of me
The person that I’ve been lately
Ain’t who I wanna be

But you stay here right beside me
And watch as the storm blows through
And I need you

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you
Gave me you

There’s more here than what we’re seeing
A divine conspiracy
That you, an angel lovely
Could somehow fall for me
You’ll always be love’s great martyr
And I’ll be the flattered fool
And I need you

God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you

On my own I’m only
Half of what I could be
I can’t do without you
We are stitched together
And what love has tethered
I pray we never undo

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you, gave me you.
He gave me you.

Stand By You

So I have a student who is now a junior and has become one of my favorite kids.  A turning point for us was her freshman year when she was sitting in my office, and I had a country station on.  Jason Aldean's Big Green Tractor came on, and she starting singing under her breath.  The she looked at me very seriously, almost with concern in her voice and said, "Miss, I think that I might like country music."  I told her that it was ok to like country music and that was that.  Sophomore year I let her go up to my office before me and let herself in.  When I got upstairs, she had figured out how to turn my radio on and was listening to the country station, singing away.  So, it has become a long standing joke between us that she was "scared" to like country music, and now she sits in my office and we watch country music videos together (yes, I get paid to do this).  She is the one that brought this song to my attention, and I started liking it.  She told me that it was the best song about friendship.  Not going to lie...haven't been the biggest fan of Rascal Flatts recently but they hold a lot of good friendship memories for me.  I was listening to this song today, thinking about my student and my friends and realized that it reminds me of another friendship song that was important to me when I was her age.  So here are both songs....new then old.

Rascal Flatts - I Won't Let Go
http://youtu.be/Af8mB9ABuJA

It's like a storm
That cuts a path
It breaks your will
It feels like that
You think you're lost
But you're not lost on your own,
You're not alone

I will stand by you,
I will help you through
When you've done all you can do
and you can't cope
I will dry your eyes,
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight
and I won't let go

It hurts my heart to see you cry
I know its dark this part of life
Oh it find us all and we're to small
to stop the rain
Oh but when it rains

I will stand by you,
I will help you through
When you've done all you can do
and you can't cope
I will dry your eyes,
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight
and I won't let you fall

Don't be afraid to fall
I'm right here to catch you
I won't let you down
It won't get you down
You're gonna make it
I know you can make it

Cause I will stand by you,
I will help you through
When you've done all you can do
and you can't cope
I will dry your eyes,
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight
and I won't let go

Oh I'm gonna hold you
and I won't let go
Won't let you go
No I won't

New Year

No song today....just a Happy New Year message and a hope and prayer that 2012 is better for me and many of the people that I know and love.
